Research briefing:
COVID-19 and the Chinese Model of Treatment With Breathable Hydrogen and Oxygen

Lord McNair had had a lifetime’s passion for organics and natural health which he knows have never been more needed than now. He is convinced that in part it is our lifestyle and exposure to new to nature substances, energies and medications that have made the COVID-19 outbreak more devastating than it otherwise would have been.
Background to the science and overview of discoveries
Business Financial Services Ltd is a coordinating hub of a group of companies that is addressing the COVID-19 outbreak on both the scientific and commercial level. We are able to supply COVID-19 related products in response to the global emergency and at the same time we search out and disseminate vital information on the scientific and medical picture as it develops.
Of particular importance is the emerging science of Molecular Hydrogen Therapy. Molecular Hydrogen is a medical gas, used in Chinese hospitals for sepsis and severe shock, and having very powerful anti-oxidant and anti- inflammatory effects. New research and clinical experience show it has a vital part to play in the current global crisis. Implementation of this research has been a key contributor to China’s success in controlling the COVID-19 outbreak.
In recent years, following major breakthroughs in the treatment of viral infections, the Chinese have developed devices that deliver a combination of breathable hydrogen and oxygen. The scientific evidence reveals the potential for the treatment to act in 2 ways:
- Build immunity through an enhanced immune system.
- Significantly reduce the moderate-severe symptoms to mild-unnoticeable symptoms.
The development of these devices follows on from work by the world's leading researchers in the field in the US, Japan, and China. The success with using breathable hydrogen and oxygen has resulted in the approval by the Chinese authorities, and the China Office of WHO for this technology as a supportive treatment for COVID-19. The leading company in the field has conducted 70 studies, 50 on animals and 20 on humans with remarkably good results. The latest research study on 450 patients with COVID-19, all of whom recovered is due to be published mid-April.
The Science
Hydrogen is the first element on the periodic table and the smallest, lightest, and most simple element. H 2 is two atoms which combine to form the smallest molecule in the universe. Since 2000 it has additionally been discovered to be a new generation anti-viral medical gas. Molecular Hydrogen (H 2 ) is involved in a myriad of reactions and processes within the body that regulate normal cell function. In a viral infection these processes become deranged. COVID-19 is a novel virus. However, the symptoms being recorded are also noted in existing research into other severe viruses. New research suggests that a similar physiological reaction is causing these symptoms. The first record of research into hydrogen as a factor in health dates from 1888. There was also research published in the 1970s. The breakthrough came in 2007 when Ohsawa et al., published “Hydrogen acts as a therapeutic antioxidant by selectively reducing cytotoxic oxygen radicals” in Nature Medicine.

In viral infections, what is known as a quot;cytokine storm" leads to a combination of viral damage and massive immune response, causing further inflammation and resulting in a storm of oxidative stress and inflammatory overdrive, leading to widespread cell dysfunction and cell death. For an explanation of‘cytokine storm’, please see this New Scientist article:
https://www.newscientist.com/term/cytokine-storm/
Moderate to severe symptoms of COVID-19 infection involve respiratory issues and in severe cases multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). The symptoms are similar as other viral infections but the ventilator does not seem to benefit them. The virus seems to disrupt the bond between the heme and the iron molecule, reducing the oxygen saturation of the blood. Please see towards the end of the overview for more on this very important topic.
Supplying additional external H 2 to the body of a person suffering these symptoms helps to regulate the biological processes involved with a cytokine storm and works to calm the inflammation and restore normal function. H 2 can be produced as a medical gas but one that only exists in the atmosphere in its pure state for a very short period of time. It needs to be consumed (i.e. breathed in) as soon as it is produced as it travels upwards at 40 miles per hour.
Hydrogen medical gas is now one of the fastest expanding research topics in China, Japan and the US. Dr. Wan Gang, President of the Chinese Association of Science and Technology (CAST) is one of a growing number of senior level scientific figures speaking about the importance of Hydrogen Therapy for the future of medicine

The evolving scientific picture is one of great promise for treating serious viral infections like the current COVID-19 outbreak.

The reason for the healing power of molecular hydrogen is its unique ability to regulate inflammation through gene expression and due to the small molecular size, diffuse into areas that other anti-oxidants struggle to reach, selectively reducing the two most dangerous free radicals, hydroxyl (OH) and Peroxynitrite. (ONOO-)
The hypothesis is that by providing medical hydrogen as well as oxygen, we shall be able to significantly reduce moderate to severe symptoms in people who already have the COVID-19 infection, thereby reducing the severity of the cytokine storm, bond the surplus iron radicals as Iron hydride. (FeH2) through regulation of oxidative stress and extreme inflammation, while maintaining oxygen levels.
As a preventative measure, we offer the same medical technology to safeguard those without existing symptoms, reduce the risk of them becoming infected and protect those at risk until the virus burns out, or to enhance their immunity generally. The devices deliver both breathable H 2 (66%) and O 2 (33)
Technically speaking, this is how the hydrogen gives benefit in treating viral infections:
- Boosting immunity through improved mitochondria anti-viral signaling protein (MAVS) functions.
- Significantly reducing side-effects through activating and supercharging inherent inflammatory regulation to calm the inflammatory overdrive response.
- Neutralizes the 2 most damaging free radicals in your body. There are 1000+ studies supporting our hypothesis, including human studies, which demonstrate the anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of molecular hydrogen. No significant side effects have been recorded, and no dangerous drug interactions have come to light after testing with all mainstream drugs. Molecular hydrogen occurs normally in the human body and is absorbed naturally.
The research shows that combined use of Oxygen Therapy and Hydrogen Therapy is effective in the supportive and defensive mechanisms against COVID-19. Some studies from the literature Hydrogen protects lung from hypoxia/re-oxygenation injury by reducing hydroxyl radical production and inhibiting inflammatory responses.

This study indicates the true potential for hydrogen medicine as a significant novel anti-viral treatment for influenza, novel coronaviruses and similar infections. The study highlights the key anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and cytoprotective (cell protective) function of the treatment. COVID-19 virus has atypical glycoproteins to target the heme of our red blood cells. (Haemoglobin) In doing this, it releases a toxic oxidative iron ion which can no longer bind to oxygen. Slowly our haemoglobin is saturated with the COVID-19 virus rather than the iron that bonds to the oxygen to energize our body. It has the same mechanism as carbon monoxide poisoning, in which CO is bound to the haemoglobin, making it unable to carry oxygen. In both carbon monoxide poisoning and COVID-19 infection, ventilators aren’t treating the root cause; as the patient’s lungs aren’t ‘tiring out’, they’re pumping just fine. The red blood cells just can’t carry what they are supposed to carry - our oxygen. This video describes in detail the biochemistry of the way that COVID-19 affects the body.
